Thomas Moffitt, CPG Entrepreneur & Executive

Thomas Moffitt is an entrepreneurial innovator and established executive in the food and beverage industry. He was most recently Co-founder & CEO of Commonwealth Dairy, a yogurt manufacturing business with two production facilities and net sales of over $140 million per year.  Currently he serves on the Board. He also owns Bucktide Sales and Marketing Company, a brokerage firm that represents fast-growing consumer brands in many of the nations largest grocery retail chains. 

Prior to founding Commonwealth Dairy, Moffitt co-founded HMS WorldSupply, Inc., an international food and beverage firm that developed and marketed consumer packaged goods globally.  He also worked for Ahold, one of the world’s largest grocery retailers, managing over $175 million per year in dairy commodity risk.

Moffitt has proven capability in growing and running large, complex businesses. His expertise encompasses a diverse range of skills involved in launching a venture, including developing a vision, brand development, forging partnerships, creative financing (leveraging public and private sources), sales and marketing. His business philosophy is based upon his commitment to high-quality products, respectful and responsive interactions, and a supportive corporate culture.

Moffitt has been quoted and interviewed in publications including The Wall Street Journal, CBS Business Radio, Fortune Magazine, Forbes Magazine, Distribution Channels Magazine, and Redbook Magazine.  He was named to the annual Vermont 40 under 40 list and has been a guest on NECN’s CEO Corner.  He was also the subject of a Babson College business case study.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Colby College and a Masters of Science in Microbiology from in the University of Wisconsin (Madison).  He acts in an advisory capacity to a number of businesses, is Chairman of the Board at Lightswitch Foods (a fast growing drinks Company) and maintains a strong commitment to supporting local agriculture and sustainable food systems.
